Spice it Up Spice up your Homemade Baby Food
By: Tamika Gardner

Sugar and spice and everything nice? Sure, but without the sugar. By all means add a pinch of ginger, cinnamon, rosemary, garlic powder and more to your homemade baby food purees. This is what making homemade baby food is all about! Giving your baby fresh food with a variety of herbs and spices will surely make transitioning to eating the family's food easy.

There are so many different herbs and spices to try, but be sure that the spices you choose are not spicy hot. Ground herbs and spices such as ground rosemary or ground ginger are the best options. You can also save a bundle by buying your spices from Costco or Sam's Club over traditional grocery stores. It is never recommend to add sugar or salt to your babies diet.

Some pediatricians recommend waiting until 8 months to give the baby spices. Some mothers disagree. Please check with your pediatrician before trying anything new. And the "4 day wait" rule applies when introducing herbs and spices to be sure there aren't any allergic reactions. Caution: Not all of these recipes will be appropriate for some infants due to an infants age. You may substitute or leave out ingredients as you need.

Here are a few combinations to try:

Green Beans with Garlic & Onion Powder

Cornish Hen with Ground Rosemary

Chicken with Cinnamon Apples

Sweet Potatoes with Cinnamon & Nutmeg

Garlic Potatoes with dill & parsley

Tuna with Paprika

Pear with vanilla

Bananas with Ginger

What is "4 day wait"?

When introducing new foods to your baby , it is always recommended to give the same food to your baby 4 days in a row so that you can easily pinpoint foods that may cause an allergic reaction.
