Having already harvested email addresses from customers, they simply put on a special for the day and notify their mailing list. What would normally be a poor day turns into an above average day. The same can apply to the online world. If sales at your web site are on the sluggish side why not consider ways to stimulate the market and bump up your profits. A private sale can do just that.
How does it work?
Perhaps you have an extensive mailing list. Why not offer a special discount for a limited time period, say 24 hours.
Email your customers and explain this is a private invitation to valued members to benefit from a 20% discount (or whatever figure you set) and that it will only be valid for the next 24 hours.
Higher level shopping cart software packages come with ad tracking systems that can have a time limit on them. So you simply set the ad tracking link for 24 hours and send that out to your customer base with your sales message.
The customer is impressed they have been included on a private sale. If anyone tries the link after the 24 hour limit they will find it has expired. They will realize it was a genuine private sale and if you run such a promotion again in the future they will take it seriously.
