Traffic Exchange Lingo What is a Splash Page
By: Derek Blandford
If you?ve spent any time online promoting with traffic exchanges, you?ve probably heard the term ?splash page? mentioned a time or two. So just what is a splash page?
When it comes to traffic exchanges, a splash page is simply a short advertising page that is designed to create curiosity. Think of it like a billboard you might see while driving down the highway. The splash page should evoke enough curiosity to get the viewer to do one of two things: either get them to click on a link to go to another page such as a sales page, or get them to fill out their name and email to request more information about the product or service being presented.
Splash pages generally have the following characteristics:
They are designed to be small so that they fit entirely in the viewer?s window. In other words, no scrolling is needed to view the entire page. A good size for a splash page is around 500-700 pixels wide and around 400-500 pixels long or smaller.
Splash pages are designed to be fast loading. Since traffic exchanges work off a timer (10 to 20 seconds in most cases), the entire splash page should load in that time frame.
Splash pages are not designed to sell. That?s left to the sales page. Thus, they should not be loaded down with text or a bunch of advertising pitches. Instead, a strong headline with a couple key points that evoke curiosity is often all that is needed. A powerful or unusual graphic is also a plus to catch the attention of the viewer immediately.
Splash pages should have a strong call to action on them. In other words, they should tell the viewer exactly what they are supposed to do, whether that is to click on a link or fill out their personal information to learn more.
Splash pages are effective because they give you a unique page to promote with instead of promoting with the same affiliate pages that everyone else is using. They help you stand out from the crowd. They can be used to emphasize specific benefits or features of a product or service, and when you add your name and picture to your splash pages, they can be powerful branding tools even if you get a poor clickthrough rate.
So to sum it all up, what is a splash page? It?s the perfect way to increase sales, signups, and clickthroughs when promoting via traffic exchanges!
