Home Environment is Very Important in the Formation of a Character
By: Sharon White
Everybody will agree with a statement that home environment is not only very important in the formation of a character, but rather is a place where a character formation begins. Some say that school is such a place, but it is parents who are responsible for their child, and it is their obligation to provide everything necessary for normal and natural growth and development of their child as a personality and physically and emotionally strong person.
If you think about it, a lot of problems and troubles in our modern world happen because of lack of education and initial home upbringing. All these problems of alcoholism, drug abuse, and different diseases spreading are the result of poor breeding in some way.
You can usually tell about child?s parents and home environment he or she is growing in by a child and his or her behavior. Teachers know that most of the pupils who are the best students in the class, or who are studying hard, grow in a good family with usually both parents, or at least parents who care about their children?s life and future, who pay interest to their kids? childhood and schooling. These children who feel love and care of their parents from the very first step and move have someone as an example in life, someone to imitate or to be like. These children have someone to teach them what respect and love are. Friendly and close members of the family are the best example of love, loyalty, friendship and mutual support and care. Family is like the first educational establishment for children, and their future character and life depends on what kind of education this establishment provides.
We need to understand that we are not talking about the families only with both parents and those rich or financially provided. It is not the most important aspect that has the most influential part. What important is for parents and all members of the family to realize the role they play in each other?s lives and responsibility in respect to one another. This responsibility includes being respective and caring, being an example of ?an ideal Mom or Dad?, of ?an ideal sibling?, and also teaching children that their family is the greatest value they have in life, is something holy and greater than anything in this world.
It is parents? obligation to educate a child to be an honorable and worthy member of the society. By being attentive to their kid?s behavior, marks at school, friends, their interests parents can avoid a lot of problems with their kid in the future, they can keep their baby from making a lot of mistakes. Good parents should never neglect their child and his or her environment, they should keep an eye on anything he or she does or says. But this doesn?t mean that parents need to be too controlling, because it can only spoil everything and make a child to be isolated from a society. Control usually means fear, and fear doesn?t mean respect. I believe that all relationship should be based on mutual respect.
Of course one cannot affirm that home environment is the only part that influences child?s life and future, you can say it is one of the most important aspects. There are a lot of examples in our life when children, coming from nice and educated families with caring parents who gave all efforts to raise a worthy personality, choose another way, the way of criminal lifestyle or abusing drugs. Later their parents and psychologists cannot give a proper explanation or reason what made this kid act that way. This may happen because we all live in one society, which is far from being perfect with too many temptations for young people. They used to say in the former USSR ?Family is a cell of a society?, and society has to change as a whole. We should not just live in our families but realize our responsibilities and obligations as one nation. Maybe if each one of us started caring not just for their own families but for all other people around, the society would turn into a better environment for our children. Of course a lot of us get discouraged thinking that we cannot change anything and nothing depends on us, or that it is too hard now to make any changes. But still we all need to remember that a good person with the best qualities grows only in conscientious families with responsible and caring parents.
