Photographys Common Misconception The Secret
By: Ali Maadelat
Today's lesson is about, as the title suggests, "the common misconception".
What you are about to learn is a pretty big secret, to beginners at least. I am scared to think what would happen if the big photography store chains found out I was telling people this...
Oh well, if I can change the views of one idiot photographer-wanabee, it will be worth it.
Do you know what it is? The photography companies want you to believe it, and like sheep, you do.
The common misconception is the idea that it is your camera's fault when you take a bad picture. Even if you don't notice, I bet that you have seen a form of this. In fact, I bet you are guilty of it!
How many times have you heard the following statement: "Here is my picture, I took it with a 2 mega-pixel camera, so it isn't my best work..."?
How about: "I want to get a new camera, I want at least 12 mega-pixels", "I shoot film, so they look a bit wierd", "These were shot with a point-and-shoot, if I had a SLR they would be so much better!"
Guess what, all of that is utter BS. Having a "better" camera will not affect your photos at all. A camera is just a light-tight box with a hole on one end and a medium (either film or a digital chip) on the other side. Having a pop-up flash or a detatchable lens will make no difference.
In fact, I have seen AMAZING pictures taken with holgas and disposable cameras. Holgas have to be the "WORST" cameras ever made. Oh wait, no they aren't.
It is the photographer, not the camera, that takes the pictures. You can have the most amazing camera in the world, and if you suck as a photographer (which you most likely do), your pictures will also suck.
Instead of buying a $20,000 camera, how about learning how to not suck? Well, thats what you are doing right now aren't you? Great! In a few days, I will tell you about my secret to learning how to take great photographs ASAP. However, you must admit RIGHT NOW that you will not tell ANYONE about it.
