Ever wondered what makes software a hit? If you analyze it closely, it's the simplicity of use that makes it stand out from other similar software. The software becomes simple, if the logic behind it is crystal clear. If the logic is not clear to the development team, then the result will be unnecessary complex software, which will be abandoned by the users during the initial trial run itself.
I have seen many software with lots of menus, many of them unwanted or never used. It makes the software looks complicated thereby making the end-user totally confused who finally throws it for a better one. If you want your software to become a success, pay close attention to its core logic and design. Good software in my opinion is the one, which really do a complicated task with less data given and in less time.
Once you start the project, it is very difficult to go back and change the structure of the software. It is therefore very important that a good understanding among team members has to be generated about the software and it's proposed applications. The domain knowledge is very important while designing the software. The domain knowledge has to be communicated clearly to the development team by the functional experts who should have years of experience in their respective fields.
